Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Q: How should I prepare my home before you arrive?
A: Pick up your home as best you can. Remove all small items from carpet (toys, papers, small end tables, chairs, etc.) Large items can remain (beds, sofas, dining room tables, etc.); we'll work around those, clean around the edges, and upon request, move them to clean underneath.
  2. Q: Should I vacuum before you arrive to clean my carpets?
A: If there are lots of large trash items needing to be vacuumed off your carpet, then vacuuming before we arrive is helpful. We also vacuum at the start of our process, mainly to loosen and remove dirt from deep within your carpet.
  3. Q: Should I wait for Spring or Summer to have my carpets cleaned, to air my house and help the carpets dry?
A: With today's technology you no longer need to wait for the warm weather months to clean your carpets. Our state-of-the-art systems leave your carpet damp - not sopping wet - and dry withing 1 to 6 hours (vs. one to six days with some carpet cleaners).
  4. Q: I've got some really tough stains - should I scrub them before you arrive?
A: No! Scrubbing done without professional techniques can actually make stains worse, and work them in to a point where they are impossible to remove. We recommend blotting up the excess spill with towels, and contact Capital Carpet Care for special pre-treat spot removers to spray on your stain at least 24 hours or more before we arrive. (In some cases, stains benefit by having the stain remover sit on them for up to 7 days prior to having your carpets cleaned.) If you have heavy stains, please contact us in advance for pretreatment to achieve the best results.
  5. Q: Should I request the Carpter Protecter be applied on my carpet at the end of my service?
A: We recommend the protectant be added to carpets if you intend on keeping your current carpet for at least 2 or more years. It will extend the life of your carpet, and keeps it looking in its best condition. This extra upfront cost more than pays for itself as future spots and stains are much easier to remove.
  6. Q: Should I keep my cats from walking on my newly cleaned carpet until it's dry?
A: This is personal preference, depending upon whether or not you feel the cats would soil your carpet with their paws. Aside from that, our all-natural cleaning products are safe for children and pets to walk on - even when wet.
  7. Q: Should I have my carpet stretched?
A: Constant wear and tear, such as dragging heavy furniture across the carpet and vacuuming pulls at the carpet can loosen it somewhat. Carpet stretching can help extend the life of your carpet and prevent safety hazards where excessively loose carpets cause noticeably large bumps and wrinkles that could cause trips and falls.

The simplest way to see if you need your carpet streatched is to try and pull at the centre of the carpet and - if it is possible - hold if for a couple of minutes before releasing it. Should it bounce back neatly and tightly in place, chances are, you do not need to have your carpet stretched. If the carpet does not return to its original elasticity and forms wrinkles instead, then you're a candidate for stretching. Another method is to monitor the condition of your carpet whenever you vacuum it. Should there be wrinkles forming whenever your are vacuuming, it is a sure sign that your carpet needs stretching.

Whether or not to have your old carpet stretched depends on many factors, such as how long you intend to keep the current carpet, and the extent of the loosening. Carpet stretching is especially reccomended if the carpet is extremely loose in an area where children are apt to run and play, or in areas where the elderly - or those with physical disbilities - may frequent.
  8. Q: How often should I have my carpets cleaned?
A: Carpet Manufacturers recommend having your carpets steam cleaned on average every 7 months. In between steam cleanings, Encapsultaiton cleaning is a cost effect way for quick touch-ups, perhaps before having guests over or when you'd like your carpet to look it's very best between major cleanings.
  9. Q: How long will it take for my carpet to dry?
A: After we clean your carpets, on average your carpet should be dry in about one to five hours. The longer you can keep your windows and doors open, the quicker the drying process, however - especially in winter months - keeping your doors and windows open is not necessary.
